Salt of the Earth, Light of the World, City on a Hill, that can not be hid.
Matthew 5:13-16
For over 90 years, New Bethel Baptist Church has stood as a spiritual home and community anchor in Detroit. Founded in 1932 and rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ, our mission is simple yet powerful: to share God’s Word, serve our neighbors, and build disciples who impact the world.
From the leadership of Rev. C. L. Franklin, who helped place New Bethel at the heart of the Civil Rights Movement, to the ministry of Pastor Robert Smith Jr., who has guided us into global mission and local renewal, New Bethel has remained faithful to its call — worship, evangelism, and service.
Today, our church is alive with ministries that feed the hungry, teach the Word, empower families, and nurture future leaders. Through partnerships, outreach, and worship, we continue to embody a living legacy: faith that sings, hope that serves, and love that reaches beyond our walls.
At New Bethel, we are more than a church — we are a family committed to God’s glory and to the flourishing of our city and world.
